The Many Faces of Gypsy

I love my dog.  She runs our life now and I don’t care.  I general she is an awesome dog!  She still has an occasional accident in the house which we feel is her being angry at us.  She has become a lot more affectionate since we first got her!  She actually wants to be around us and get pets.  Here are some photos to bring a little joy to your life.

Holiday Craft Project

I’ve had a craft project in mind since I saw an etsy pin on pinterest.  I’ve been collecting wine bottles this year in order to create my idea.  The other week, I headed to AC Moore for decorations.  The basic idea was to create snowman and santa wine bottles.  I always find myself having a hard time giving gifts to my non-immediate family members, but who doesn’t love homemade holiday decorations?!?!

Step 1: remove the labels off of the wine bottles.  I soaked the bottles in warm soapy water and most of the labels peeled right off.  For the ones that did not, I used goo-be-gone.

Step 2: spray paint the bottles (red and white)

Step 3: let dry!

Step 4: decorate 🙂  see final product below for inspiration

Wow…Where has the time gone?

I’m not really sure where my head has been, but it hasn’t been interested in writing blog posts.  Between my annual meeting and wedding planning my free time has been spent in front of a computer, but not with any motivation to write here.  I also feel like I haven’t really had much inspiration to write.  I am unsure if I will continue with this blog or say my goodbyes.

A few updates on life…

1.  My Annual meeting at the beginning of this month was a success.  My boss was extremely pleased and isn’t sure how I can make the next one better.  Eeeeek, a lot to live up to!

2.  A promotion is in my future.  I’m excited for that, but also a little scared!

3.  Wedding planning is going great.  All the vendors have been selected and now onto the little details!

I’d love to hear what my readers have been up to!  Hope life has been going well and you are getting ready for the holidays!

Feeling Lonely on a Friday Night

The other Friday, Penguin had a fantasy football draft.  I was invited to go over to his friends house while they drafted, but I felt bad leaving Gypsy behind for the second night in a row.

I elected to stay home, but felt weird all day about being home alone on a Friday night.  I realized the other week, that I have no issues staying at home on a Friday night when I have company (aka the Penguin).  When people ask what I did on Friday, I don’t even care when I say just stayed home and watched tv or a movie.  But this Friday, it felt odd.

Then I was getting sad before he left and we joked that I am constantly leaving him alone during the week for dinner.  That just seems different though!

So instead of sitting around and moping, I created a to-do list and knocked things off one by one!  Sometimes going out to drink just takes too much energy.  I like low-key Friday nights.  How do you like to spend your Friday nights?

Summer To-Do List

I was inspired by Cupcakes & Cashmere to create a summer to-do list.  Mind you, I am no where near as fabulous as she is (writing her second book) and all, but I thought it would be fun!  Do you have a summer to-do list?  If so, please share!

1.  Start working out regularly again

2.  Create of a list of the jewelry I own which includes pictures, what the piece is and where it came from (my memory has already faded and I want to be able to remember years down the line the significance of the pieces I own)

3.  Go to a community board meeting

4.  Possibly join a community committee….I’m nervous about this one!

5.  Take Gypsy to a dog park

6.  Catch up on my scrap-booking (last event I scrap booked was a wedding in November)

7.  Buy a new nightstand and a filing cabinet for both the Penguin’s and my important documents

8.  Go for a hike

9.  Check out some Virginia wineries

10.  Read some books!  Any suggestions?

Friends within the Villages

I live in an area that has a TON of residential units!  My building has 6 units while my little courtyard area probably has 20 total units.  I have made NO friends within my courtyard. Yes, I know some people by first name, but that is about it.  I just met one person that has been living within my building for over 2 years and when he asked how long I’d been there he was shocked it had almost been a year.  A full year of not meeting someone within my building seems crazy to me.

I really wish I had friends within my complex.  I keep telling myself to go to the monthly meetings or join a committee, but that hasn’t happened yet.  Maybe soon!

I do meet a lot of people walking the dog, but no friendships have been formed.  The great thing that happened recently was realizing one of Jeff’s friend of a friend lives literally 2 blocks from us.  We have now become pool buddies and Sunday dinner friends.  It is really a great feeling to have someone so close!  I envision great fun being had with this new group of friends!  I just still wish I could form some other bonds with people within the community.

Any suggestions on how to do that for an introvert like myself?

New Schedule Because of a New Addition

I’ve finally started to work out again this week.  I decided trying to fit in a workout after work wasn’t happening.  If I had a miserable commute, I had no desire to then workout and make dinner.  I could only muster the energy to do one of those things and food always won out over exercise.  In addition to waking up early to get my fitness on, I’ve also added two morning walks to my routine because of this cutie!

The Penguin and I adopted a pet from the Washington Humane Society. I’ve been wanting to get a dog of my own for a long time and when I saw WHS was offering $10 adoptions, I just couldn’t pass this cutie up!  We have had her for a week and she is obviously still adjusting, but I just love her.  I can’t wait to get home at night to play with her and cuddle up next to her.

I know I have mentioned that owning a pet is like having a child.  The responsibility is huge and your life changes because of needing to let out and feed another thing, but we are ready for the challenge.  She seems to be perfectly content sleeping all day, but is ready to go whenever we pull the leash out.  She is calm in the car and likes to sniff new dogs. She doesn’t really know how to play with them so we are going to work on that with some puppy play dates/dog park excursions.

I am so excited to have her as a part of our family and I can’t wait to share more dog stories with you!
